(no animals were harmed in the making of this blog)
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't really a "tom-boy", I wasn't into sports, never have been hunting...but I wasn't exactly cheer leader material either. The real tie breaker for me came from a distinct lack-of-drama on the male front.
Women: they're catty, conniving, manipulative, materialistic. This this is what I thought. The few ladies who've been close friends over the years felt the same way (and we're still close, so no, this blog isn't about them). Better to stay out of female friendships and avoid the drama. I don't like to shop, I don't wanna talk about our nails, and I don't care who's dating who. Yup, that was me. Take it or leave it.
I was pretty die-hard on this issue. For. a. long. time.
Fast forward to my present day life and my, my, my, what have we here? My old me would be shocked at this 30-something me. I have more women friends than I can shake a stick at (not that I've tried shaking a stick at any of them).
And you know what? These ladies aren't catty. They aren't materialistic. They're not boring, dull, gossips either. They're not concerned with the length of their nails and we never, ever discuss who's dating whom.
THESE LADIES ARE AWESOME! My friends are awesome. And they're real. And honest. And good and caring and unique. Each one brings something so totally different and cool in to my life. What can I say? I love them! And I am so grateful for each of them. They're making my life even better than it was before.
And they're so important to me that I sometimes go to heroic measures (slight exaggeration) to spend time with them. And my husband sees how much they mean to me, how I'm actually changed for the better by time spent with them and frankly I think he's thankful I'm not taking out all my "talk time" on him. So he makes sacrifices to make sure that every so often I can go and spend hours upon hours with some of these great people. And we never run out of things to say.
I never thought I'd be in the place but lo and behold - here I am. And I'm loving it!

I find you unique, hilarious, wild and fun! I giggle at the fact that we can't thoroughly finish a conversation because there is so much to talk about. And I thrilled to be around someone who gets me! Yep, I'm totally thankful for you. And for Glenn, who sacrifices for our get togethers!
ReplyDeleteWho are you and where did you come from? Totally kidding...well, sort of. :)
ReplyDeleteSo tell me, when you knew you were called to be part of MiA, did you think it was like a practical joke from our Creator?! I know I did (about me...not you).
It's amazing how many women I have met in the past 10 years who have a similar tale...where were all of them when we were younger?
